Two-factor Authentication for ICloud Account and Apple ID Set Up
Two-factor Authentication for iCloud Account and Apple ID is an extra layer of security for your Apple ID designed to ensure that you’re the only person who can access your account, even if someone knows your password. Two-factor Authentication for ICloud Account and Apple ID is available to iCloud users with at least one device that’s using iOS 9 or OS X El Capitan or later.
Two-Factor Authentication For ICloud Account and Apple ID Minimum Recommended System Requirements;
==> Apple Watch with watchOS 2 and later
==> Apple TV (4th generation) with tvOS
==> iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch with iOS 9 and later
==> Mac with OS X El Capitan and iTunes 12.3 and later
==> Windows PC with iCloud for Windows 5 and iTunes 12.3.3 and later
While most iCloud users can now turn on two-factor authentication, certain account types may still be ineligible at Apple’s discretion.
Turn On Two-Factor Authentication For ICloud Account And Apple ID
These involves two ways;
1. Set up from a new device
If you’re not setting up a new device, make sure that you’re using iOS 9 or later on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch or OS X El Capitan or later on your Mac and follow these steps to turn on two-factor authentication
2. On your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch:
- Go to Settings > [your name] > Password & Security. If you’re using iOS 10.2 or earlier, Go to Settings > iCloud. Tap your Apple ID > Password & Security.
- Tap Turn on Two-Factor Authentication.
- Tap Continue.
On your Mac:
- Go to Apple () menu > System Preferences > iCloud > Account Details.
- Click Security.
- At the bottom of your screen, look for a button that says Turn on Two-Factor Authentication.
Functions Of Two-Factor Authentication For ICloud Account And Apple ID
With Two-factor Authentication for Apple ID and iCloud Account, your account can only be accessed on devices you trust, like your iPhone, iPad, or Mac. When you want to sign in to a new device for the first time, you’ll need to provide two pieces of information—your password and the six-digit verification code that’s automatically displayed on your trusted devices.
By entering the code, you’re verifying that you trust the new device. For example, if you have an iPhone and are signing into your account for the first time on a newly purchased Mac, you’ll be prompted to enter your password and the verification code that’s automatically displayed on your iPhone.
A trusted device is an iPhone, iPad, iPod touch with iOS 9 and later, or Mac with OS X El Capitan and later that you’ve already signed in to using Two-factor Authentication for Apple ID and iCloud Account.
It’s a device we know is yours and that can be used to verify your identity by displaying a verification code from Apple when you sign in on a different device or browser.
Trusted phone numbers
Manage Your Account Two-Factor Authentication For Apple ID And ICloud Account
You can manage your trusted phone numbers, trusted devices, and other account information from your Apple ID account page. Keep your trusted phone numbers up to date
To use two-factor authentication, you need at least one trusted phone number on file where you can receive verification codes.
Follow These Steps To Update Your Trusted Phone;
- Go to your Apple ID account page.
- Sign in with your Apple ID.
- Go to the Security section and click Edit.
Steps To Generate An App-Specific Password Two-Factor Authentication For Apple ID And ICloud Account
- Sign in to your Apple ID account page.
- Click Generate Password below App-Specific Passwords.
- Follow the steps on your screen.
- After you generate your app-specific password, enter or paste it into the password field of the app as you would normally.
How to Reset Or Change Your Password From Your Trusted Device On Two-Factor Authentication For Apple ID And ICloud Account
- Go to Settings > [your name]. If you’re using iOS 10.2 or earlier, Go to Settings > iCloud > tap your Apple ID.
- Tap Password & Security.
- Tap Change Password.
- Enter a new password.
- Sign in to your Apple ID account page and click Edit in the Security section. Then click Turn Off Two-Factor Authentication.
- After you create new security questions and verify your date of birth, two-factor authentication will be turned off.
Important Notice :
- If you don’t see the option to turn off two-factor authentication on your Apple ID account page, that means you can’t turn it off.
- If someone has turned on two-factor authentication for your Apple ID without your permission, you can also turn it off from the enrollment confirmation email sent to your Apple ID or rescue email address.
- Click Turn Off Two-Factor Authentication at the bottom of the email to restore your Apple ID to its previous security settings and regain control of your account. The link is active for two weeks after you enroll.
